Naked light Preview 6 is out.

download.jpg

Naked light’s underlying engine (and, so far, almost all of the filters and tools) has been rewritten in OpenCL. This is great for the future; right now, it means that the actual feature set is still as sparse as previous releases.

It also means that Naked light requires Snow Leopard, which in turn means that it’s Intel-only.

There’s not terribly much in terms of new features, but there are a few hints of things to come here and there.

Thanks for your patience with my delays—with luck there won’t be too many more disruptions to the flow of releases here on out. Have fun!

Hi, nice to see that you are still working on this app. What system are you testing on nowadays? I tried this on an iMac 7,1 (radeon 2600) and I could not do anything aside from adding a jpeg to the library. Got these huge entries on my console. I know that Apple’s openCL implementation is still fairly buggy (as of 10.6.2) but have you tested it on the CPU implementation of openCL? I like your concept for what the app is supposed to be but I would like to at least be able to take a pic and apply a blur filter or something on it.

Might also be a little early to go all out on opencl. It’s still clearly quite buggy from what I hear and GPU support will be limited only to macs released in the last year or so. I’m not a developer but in cases where there is no opencl GPU support, wouldn’t an openGL implementation of any particular filter still be faster than opencl running off the CPU?

    Lucas: Thanks!

Rick: I fixed that this morning, the next release should work fine. Sorry about that, I took a sloppy shortcut while testing that part of the code.

me: Naked light from here on out is Snow Leopard only. Sorry!

Great news! I feared the worst, with no updates for a long time. Guess this is my cue to upgrade to snow leopard :)

Have you considered doing a screen shot video of the app working ?

It would certainly restore peoples faith in the App ??? (just an idea)
